THE PRACTICAL NOTES

Care, fit & a little planning.

The right arrangements begin with a few useful questions.

Questions to ask before hiring.

Share your performance dates and tell us when you would need to receive and return the costume. Ask whether the actual item is available, which pieces come with it, what condition it is in and what the full quotation covers.

An inquiry starts a conversation. It does not hold a costume, confirm a hire or establish a price.

A useful set of measurements.

Use a flexible tape and give measurements in centimetres or inches, stating which you use. Include chest or bust, waist, hips, shoulder width, sleeve length, inside leg and overall height as relevant. Measure over the clothing or base layer you expect to wear.

Keep the tape level without pulling it tight. Mention any movement requirements and compare your measurements with the actual garment dimensions. A size label alone cannot confirm fit.

Look after the details.

Ask how to support the garment when hanging or storing it. Avoid pulling on delicate trims, pompons, ties or decorative fastenings. Check whether accessories should be packed separately.

Cleaning depends on the actual fabric, trims and construction. Request garment-specific instructions before washing, steaming, ironing or arranging professional cleaning. No single cleaning method is suitable for every costume.
